S.H.T. = the spring high tide level (the Littorinid zone is above this mark)
M.H.T. = mean or average high tide level ( the Barnacle zone is between this mark and the M.L.T. mark)
M.L.T. = mean or average low tide level ( the Kelp zone is below this mark)
