7. PROFILE OF A ROCK PLATFORM

Here is a cross section (profile) of a rock platform showing the tide levels:

S.H.T.   = the spring high tide level   (the Littorinid zone is above this mark)
M.H.T.   = mean or average high tide level   ( the Barnacle zone is between this mark and the  M.L.T. mark)
M.L.T.   = mean or average low tide level   ( the Kelp zone is below this mark)
S.L.T.    = the spring low tide level

Use your observations, books or the web to complete the diagram.

In the correct position on the diagram ---

• Draw and label 2 animals that live above average high tide level (MHT).
  
• Draw and label 2 animals that live below spring low tide level (SLT).
  
• Draw and label 2 animals that live in cracks and crevices.
  
• Draw a seaweed that lives in rock pools.
  
• Draw 3 animals that live in rock pools.
  
• Draw a seaweed that only lives below spring low tide level (SLT)
