The Nature Coast Marine Group was among the participants at the Family Fun Day at the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens last Sunday, 28 September.
“It was a beautiful day and the kids really seemed to enjoy the activities including those we organized,” said Jenny Edwards, NCMG’s Vice President.
“A fishing game was popular with youngsters. Most were very skilled at catching the paper fish with a special ‘rod’ and many understood why we have to have size and bag limits.”
“The Survival Game was also a hit. It highlighted the many hazards that intertidal marine animals have to face before their eggs and larvae can grow into adults,” Mrs Edwards said.
“Even some of the parents were amazed that so many eggs had to be produced by these animals in order for one to grow to maturity.”
“Some families joined the NCMG on the day so that they can participate in the program of activities being planned for the months ahead, including a guided intertidal rock walk during the school holidays. Members are also looking forward to another boat trip to Montague Island to snorkel with the seals, camping at Blackfellows Point, picnic days, and snorkeling and diving at Wagonga Inlet including a night snorkel.”
“Anyone visiting Batemans Bay library during the current school holidays may like to look at the NCMG display near the newspaper reading area,” said Mrs Edwards.
“It has photos of some of the magnificent marine creatures that live in our local seas. Information about NCMG and how to join is also available at the display.”
