To be presented by marine biologist and NCMG scientific adviser and executive member Mel Coleman, this will be a hands on experience, involving observing and gathering specimens on the Narooma rockshelf and later examining them under the microscope at the Marine Park Office.
Seaweed (or marine algae) are the forests of the sea, the primary producers on our reefs and intertidal areas and are critical for the health of just about everything else. And it's all around us when we swim, snorkel or walk on rock shelves. Learn about the important species and groups of seaweeds and how they contribute to marine habitats.
We plan to make this a fun day, starting at around 11.30 with a BYO lunch at the park near the Narooma Town Wharf. Further details will be provided closer to the time. In the meantime, it would be helpful if anyone interested in participating could let me know by email or phone. Car pooling also desirable here.
