Saturday  10th  January 2009 - Rock Shelf Walk At Broulee

Broulee Rock Shelf is one of the richest intertidal life areas in our region. Guided by intertidal guru Jenny Edwards, you will be amazed at the weird and wonderful critters that can be found in the rock pools at your feet. You are almost guaranteed to see all or most of molluscs, sea stars, worms, sea squirts, octopus, anemones, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, crabs, shrimps and more.

We will meet at the Harbour Drive car park (not the Broulee Surf Club) at 1.30pm on Saturday 10 January, in good time for the low tide which will be at 3.00. Bring a hat, appropriate footwear, sunscreen, water, field guides, digital cameras, a pole for helping you balance, hand lenses and any other bits and pieces you might want. Remember that the rocks can be slippery and uneven and care has to be taken. We will provide a safety briefing prior to the walk.

And after the walk...

Hi all,
The rock walk today was very enjoyable and the 16 people there seemed to get something out of it.  The 3 octopi were the highlight but we also found the usual suspects (brittle stars, elephant snails, etc) - only one nudibranch (Pteraeolidia ianthina - Blue Dragon?)
