WAGONGA INLET PICNIC DAY, SUNDAY 19 OCTOBER

This is planned as an outing with something for everyone. We will meet at the Apex Park boat ramp off Centenary Drive at the back of Bar Beach, Narooma at 10.30 am. Activities for the day include a drift snorkel parallel to the boardwalk, swimming and snorkeling at Bar Beach, strolling the boardwalk and birdwatching behind Bar Beach. Bar Beach is a calm and safe swimming spot and always has something of interest for the snorkeler. The drift snorkel along the boardwalk (conditions permitting) is likely to be fun. There are usually large stingrays patrolling the area by the fish cleaning tables along with the usual pelicans.

The area is a pleasant picnic spot, with grassy areas and barbeques. Toilet/change facilities are available.

For those wanting to snorkel, remember that the water is cold at this time of the year. If you don't have an adequate wetsuit, I would suggest you obtain one. In my opinion, a full length 5mm suit is more useful as an all year round proposition than a lighter one. A 2mm shorty is almost guaranteed to leave you freezing you at this time of year. A hood is also very handy, as you lose 40% of your body heat through your head. The Ocean Hut in Narooma or the Dive Shop in Batemans Bay will be able to advise you on options. Call me if you wish to discuss.
