Return to Past Activities

Narooma Wharf Night Dive was held on Tuesday night 11th November.
Bill Barker, who put together the event, sums it up:

We had 8 snorkelers and 6 divers for this outing. And what a night it was! Everyone was blown away by the profusion of colourful marine life, including nudibranchs, side gilled slugs, molluscs of various kinds, crabs, octopus, lobster, shrimps, colourful anemones, corals and sea squirts, numerous fish - including some rarely seen species. For me, the highlight was the sight of 9 little baitfish struggling on the tentacle of a bluebottle and a host of goose barnacles voraciously feeding - sometimes the otherwise ordinary creatures of the sea show their most interesting facets at night. For those concerned with going in the water at night, there were no problems with entry or exit or water movement. It was just great and we will organise another when tides and times coincide again. Thanks to Stan Gorton for his article in the Narooma News.

Here are some snaps of the event.

Narooma had its usual warm welcoming face on as the crew drove in:

But as the sun set the environment became a little less inviting:

The scene of the crime. "Oooh, that water does look black!":

Most, but not all, tolerated the group photos:

Gear, gear and more gear......................................and with snorkels and hearts in mouths, they take the plunge.

A resident of the wharf eyes off Andrew Green warily:

A moray eel laughs nervously at one of Andrew's jokes......................and a grazing sea hare:
